It’s been a while since my last post, which is mostly because not much has happenend in neon lately as it’s running mostly by itself and life is keeping me busy. I originally intended to write a post when I’m done with the python bindings, but it turnes out that configuring SIP and dbus right takes more time than I could spare for neon lately. So here goes:

Builds for Kubuntu Raring are up, so enjoy your daily dose of KDE on the dev release!

Precise builds will be kept running until 4.10 RC1, after that please upgrade to Quantal if you wish to use neon.

Following that, the VM images are now based on Quantal.

Sadly not much progress on the python bindings. All of us are rather short on time lately thanks to kubuntu and real life.

If you have questions or just want to tell us how you are using Project Neon feel free to leave us a note on IRC in #project-neon@irc.freenode.net – we would be very happy to hear from you!

On the second topic:
Nothing beats getting home from a tiring day at work and finding presents waiting for you at home!
Thanks Jonathan for the Kubuntu shirt

Those that don’t know yet what Project Neon is should read Michal’s introductory post.

Oneiric builds have been suspended and the packages will be removed in a week. If you want to continue to use Project Neon please upgrade to Precise Pangolin

As of today Project Neon is fully running for Quantal Quetzal, enjoy your daily dose of builds on the devel release

We now have pre-built KVM Images for Project Neon so you don’t need to separately install Kubuntu first before using it!

As people keep asking for it, we’re working on the Python bindings (pykde4). As this requires more work than I initially hoped it will take a while until we’re done. You’ll hear from me again once you can use them.

Updates for Users:

With kdeaccessibility and kdeutils gone, packages for jovie, kaccessible, kmouth, kmousetool, kmag, ark, filelight, kcalc, kcharselect, kdiskfree (kdf), kfloppy, kgpg, kremotecontrol, ktimer, kwallet, superkaramba and sweeper were added.

The networkmanagement plasmoid now has builds from the nm09 branch for oneiric. Thanks to Jelmer Vernooij for pushing the necessary bzr-git support to launchpad.

strigi was updated to 0.7.6

kdelibs doesn’t build libkactivites anymore, it’s now provided by the project-neon-kactivities package

Team stuff:

The import for the 4.7 branch of kdelibs is broken, so kdelibs needs regular manually packaged snapshot uploads for a while.

Desktop Summit passed pretty fast, the rest of August even faster and so we have here the August summary of the KDE trunk daily builds for Kubuntu a.k.a Project Neon. This month turned out to be rather busy and resulted in finally working amarok builds beside other things
Those that don’t know yet what Project Neon is should read Michal’s introductory post.

Updates for Users:

Qtscriptgenerator was fixed, so about a year after starting to resurrect this project we finally have builds for Amarok in Project Neon, hurray

The neonkwin wrapper for kwin that wasn’t used for quite a while was completely removed.

Daily builds for prison were added so QRCode support in kde works again

neon-env now runs kbuildsycoca4 when initializing the environment. This fixes some of the issues people had when running a neon application from the stable KDE session after installing it due to the cache being out of date.

kdeutils and kdeaccessibility were removed from the build list now that they moved to git, but the new packages aren’t completely done yet.

Team stuff:

split kdeutils and kdeaccessibility packages are on the TODO list.

Thanks to jelmer we should be able to import non-master git branches on launchpad soon

Updates for Users:

Kalzium now builds the Molecular Editor again. Why the titrition calculator doesn’t work will be investigated soon.

With a 2 day delay since I was busy with the KDE 4.7 packaging for Kubuntu, here’s the June summary of the KDE trunk daily builds for Kubuntu a.k.a Project Neon. This is also my first post to the KDE Planet, so hello folks!
Those that don’t know yet what Project Neon is should read Michal’s introductory post.

Updates for Users:

We suspended the builds for maverick now that natty has been out for a while, so remember to upgrade if you haven’t done that yet. At the same time we enabled the oneiric builds, which should work fine except for networkmanager whose master branch can’t work with Network Manager 0.9 yet.

Rohan Garg finished project-neon-calligra which you can now find in our PPA.

I fixed a bug in the neonbuild script where –upgrade would remove the PPA entry from the sources.list requiring you to re-create the base.tgz.

I uploaded modified assuan packages so project-neon-kdepim is now installable in both natty and oneiric. (Was necessary due to a bug in Launchpad’s dependency resolver)

project-neon-phonon currently builds without qzeitgeist support since it’s causing a build failure in oneiric.

I did some work on project-neon-qtscriptgenerator in an attempt to finally get amarok builds, but it’s still not done due to a build failure I can’t quite track down.

kcheckpass and kppp got SUID bits set. With this you can actually login again after you locked your session and use a dialup connection.

kdegraphics was removed from the PPA and replaced project-neon-okular was added. The last package missing from kdegraphics is mobipocket which is on the TODO list.

Permission issues with the akonadi apparmor profile where fixed which made akonadi unable to access the mysqld database.

Team stuff:

Most of the build makefile was moved to pkg-project-neon.mk in pkg-project-neon-tools to make updating the build environment easier. Refer to rules in the dummy-ubuntu branch for the new syntax.

I added a fetch_buildlogs.py script in lp:project-neon/tools to make it easier to get to the package build logs from the PPA.

I added an –update option to branch_checkout.py so you can update existing branches while fetching new ones and fixed some minor glitches.

The CIA bzr hook now shows the full branch link for bound branches instead of just the branch nick.

So here’s the first post of hopefully monthly summaries of what’s happening in the KDE trunk daily builds for Kubuntu a.k.a Project Neon.
Those that don’t know yet what Project Neon is should read Michal’s introductory post.

An important notice up front:
We will stop providing builds for maverick as of June 2nd. Everyone that wants to use KDE trunk should update. We’ll start providing builds for oneiric the same day.

A note to all Kubuntu users that want to try 4.7: Due to the new release layout from the KDE team the official 4.7 packages won’t be available before beta2 at least. For those that still want to try it: Try Project Neon! Our packages will provide you with 4.7 at least until 4.7RC1.

Updates for users:

- The apport hook actually became useful so we would appreciate it if you could use apport if you find a bug that’s our fault. Bugs in KDE still go to the KDE Bugzilla.
- The neon-clean script from project-neon-utils now removes packages by default instead of purging them. Use –purge if you want the packages purged.
- The XDG_CONFIG_HOME environment variable is set by default now on login. This doesn’t seem to cause any problems anymore and completes the user configuration separation.
- The neonbuid script got an –upgrade option so you can easily upgrade your neon pbuilder image to your current release.
- Rohan Garg started working on a project-neon-calligra package.
- The packages don’t build tests anymore. They break too often with our linker settings in Kubuntu making builds fail that would work fine otherwise.

Team stuff:

- I added a branch_checkout.py to lp:project-neon so there’s an easy way to get all of the teams branches now. Creates checkouts of all packaging branches by default.
- I outsourced some of the packaging settings to pkg-project-neon-tools so changing the build environment will be easier in the future when necessary.
